Porcello’s shakiness has not been bad enough to knock him from the 3-spot, but with Bonderman coming back tomorrow, it’s a possibility. This is a good problem to have. Willis will never be right, and will probably have to be moved to the bullpen, with Gallarraga being the 5th starter. If we can go with Verlander, Jackson, Bonderman, Porcello and Gallarraga as our rotation, we should be fine.

Ordonez had the only hot hand, but The Tigers just couldn’t string anything together, and looked flat all game. Verlander had his good stuff today, but got rocked in the 6th inning. It defies logic, really. Detroit had their actual starting line-up in for the first time all year, Verlander looked better than he has all year, and they still lose. Maybe The Angels are just better. Maybe they got lucky. Whatever the reason, The Tigers lost the series and now get to go to The Bronx to try their luck against The Yankees.

Armando Galarraga was quietly effective again for the third straight outing. He pitched 6 good innings before falling apart, but as it stands he has a 1.50 ERA and is 2-0.
Armando Galarraga was quietly effective again for the third straight outing. He pitched 6 good innings before falling apart, but as it stands he has a 1.50 ERA and is 2-0. He actually had a no-no going into the 6th, but like Leyland says, when he gets tired, he gets tired quick. I just hope they don’t send this guy down after Willis gets off the DL.

Polanco has finally started hitting again. After struggling for the first 20 games, he seems to be recovering from his back pain and seeing the ball again. Now if they would just put Sheffield on the DL and bring Clete Thomas back up, this line-up would be in tip-top shape.

The win was very important. If they can win game 3 and take the series, they will have put themselves in a good position to go down this tough stretch coming up. After sweeping the Rangers, taking 2 out of 3 from the Angels would work just fine. I didn’t expect them to sweep the Angels anyway – they’re too good.

They left a lot of runners stranded in the later innings, which is unlikely to happen very often. So overall, I liked the performance, and I expect them to take the next two against the Angels. Really looking forward to Galarraga keeping up his surprising pitching and Verlander with his recently improved pitching mechanics.
