Willis Goes Down, Bullpen Steps Up

Dontrelle Willis Hurts Knee

It looked like things were only going to get worse when Dontrelle went down with a knee injury facing the 2nd batter, but the bullpen finally stepped up and really looked good. Aquilino Lopez and Jason Grilli pitched seven innings of one-run ball which was completely unexpected, but sorely needed. The final numbers on the much maligned bullpen: nine innings pitched - one run, four hits, two walks and 10 strikeouts. Now that’s quality.

Now we need to see some consistency from these guys, and things might start to turn around.
