New Tiger SS Edgar Renteria

The mad wizard Dave Dombrowski thinks that Edgar Renteria will be a great fit for the Tigers. He says he didn’t want to give up Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez, but he knew he’d have to give up some good prospects for a player of Renteria’s caliber.
“(Renteria’s) an all-around player,” Dombrowski tells WDFN-AM Detroit. “I think that’s what his real strength is. He’s a solid defensive player. He does not have great range; he has solid range. He catches what he gets to; he has a real good arm. He’s a heads-up type player in the field.”
I get that. I mean, you aren’t just going to get a steal of a deal every time. Basically what this means is Detroit is trying to win now. Gorkys makes sense though. I mean, Detroit already has Granderson and Maybin. How many good young center fielders do you need? As far as pitching, Jurrjens looked good, but he got injured after just a few starts. Besides, now we can move Guillen to first which should help improve both positions and keep Guillen fresher.
As for Mr. Renteria, he looked good last year in Atlanta, but what happened in Boston? What is it about the American League that brings out the worst in Renteria?
“We know Edgar really well,” Dombrowski says. “For whatever reason, the comfort zone wasn’t there for him at that particular time. I think he’ll be very successful here.”
As for talk of Detroit signing Alex Rodriguez, Dombrowski shut it down, giving a great statistic…
He’s a “quality player,” Dombrowski ackowledges, but “no club has ever won a world championship with more than 17% of salaries going to one player.”
Thank you Mr. Dombrowski. That money could be used to sign a boat load of other talent to fill our other holes. It’s good to know we have a smart GM in this town. Would you happen to know anything about football…
