Cameron Maybin Rocks Roger Clemens

OK, so the Tigers didn’t play today, but I still couldn’t help thinking how cool that must have been for Cameron Maybin to hit a home run off of Roger Clemens in his second game in the Big’s. To be able to tell your grandkids that you faced Roger Clemens is one thing, but to be able to say he hit you with a pitch after going yard off his ass – well that’s just priceless.

This kid is definitely raw though. Although he showed promise against Clemens, he looked like me against Pettite. He really needs to develop some patience at the plate. Work the pitchers. As of right now, he’s just below the Mendoza line, and is striking out at a Dave Kingmanesque pace. It’s obvious the Tigers are done with Craig Monroe, and this is supposed to be his replacemement, so it’s nice to see him get some playing time – especially in the middle of a pennant race. Should build some character, maybe put some hair on his chest. He’ll be alright once he calms down. He just needs to simplify hitting. Like Willie Mays said, “Wait for a good pitch, then hit it.” Sounds easy enough.
